First, you'll visit our Orland Park dental office in person or meet with our periodontist for a virtual consultation. He'll assess your oral health and gum tissue to determine if gum grafting surgery or laser treatment is right for you. Because we offer multiple periodontal services, we can also perform other treatments, like scaling and root planing.

We minimize discomfort during both traditional grafting and laser treatment with local anesthesia, but sedation dentistry is also available if you have dental anxiety or especially sensitive teeth. Dr. Akhras works with a licensed anesthesiologist when needed to ensure patient safety.

During a connective tissue graft, we can use donor tissue from the roof of the mouth to complete treatment. This may require more than one treatment session in our office. If we use the laser, the small fiber tip is inserted between the tooth and gum tissue to eradicate bacteria, eliminate diseased tissue, and promote the reattachment of healthy gum tissue to the tooth. LANAP is typically completed in one office visit.

We'll explain your aftercare routine, like proper oral hygiene and diet. We may prescribe antibiotics or medication to take as well. If you require traditional gum grafting surgery, you can expect a longer recovery.
